Overview

C-fiber nociceptors are a major class of sensory neurons that are unmyelinated, slow-conducting, and polymodal, responding to high-intensity mechanical, chemical, or thermal stimuli[2][3]. Their firing leads to slow, burning, and persistent pain (the "second pain" sensation), as well as neurogenic inflammation through the release of neuropeptides like substance P and CGRP[2][3][5]. Although modulation of their activity is a therapeutic strategy in pain disorders, "C-fiber nociceptors firing" refers to an electrophysiological phenomenon at the cellular level, not a discrete molecular entity, and thus is not suitable as a canonical target name for structured pharmacological or molecular databases.
