The c-Myc binding protein pseudogene (ENSG00000226523) is a nonfunctional DNA sequence in the human genome that is homologous to the functional MYCBP gene, which encodes a protein binding the transcription factor c-Myc. This pseudogene does not produce a functional protein and has no confirmed roles as a therapeutic target. While some pseudogenes are transcribed and may have regulatory effects, there is no evidence this pseudogene has biological or clinical utility. According to nomenclature guidelines, pseudogenes are defined as gene sequences that cannot produce a functional protein but retain similarity to ancestral genes.
