Overview

C-type lectin domain family 17 member A (CLEC17A), also known as prolectin, is a type II transmembrane C-type lectin receptor that is mainly expressed on lymph node B cells. It binds fucosylated glycan motifs present on epithelial cells, facilitating cell adhesion—a property leveraged by some tumor cells to colonize lymph nodes during metastasis. CLEC17A possesses a C-type lectin carbohydrate recognition domain with high specificity for mannose and fucose residues, as well as cytoplasmic motifs implicated in intracellular signaling. Sequence and biochemical analyses suggest a possible role in immune regulation beyond cell adhesion, though its full physiological and pathological significance is still under active investigation.
