C-type Natriuretic Peptide Receptor B (NPR-B)

Target
NPR-B
Molecular classification
Receptor, Guanylyl Cyclase, Transmembrane Receptor
01

Overview

C-type natriuretic peptide receptor B (NPR-B) is a transmembrane receptor that primarily binds C-type natriuretic peptide (CNP). NPR-B is a member of the particulate guanylyl cyclase family and catalyzes the conversion of GTP to cyclic GMP (cGMP) upon ligand binding. It plays critical roles in skeletal development through regulation of cartilage growth plates as well as cardiovascular homeostasis by modulating vascular tone and autonomic control over heart function. Dysfunctional signaling through this pathway has important implications for both skeletal dysplasias and cardiovascular disease states such as hypertension.
