CXCR5 is a seven-transmembrane GPCR that specifically binds the chemokine ligand CXCL13. The primary function of this interaction is to mediate the migration of immune cells, particularly B cells and certain T cell subsets, into lymphoid follicles within secondary lymphoid organs such as lymph nodes, spleen, and Peyer’s patches. It is essential for guiding B cell migration into follicles for proper immune responses and critical for positioning both B and Tfh/Tfr cells during germinal center reactions—key to high-affinity antibody production through class switching. Its dysregulation is implicated in autoimmune diseases and cancers.
