Target intelligence / Profile preview

C-X-C motif chemokine ligand 5 (CXCL5)

Target
CXCL5
Molecular classification
Chemokine, CXC chemokine family, Cytokine
01

Overview

CXCL5 is a small cytokine belonging to the CXC chemokine family, primarily acting as a chemoattractant for neutrophils via interaction with CXCR2. It plays roles in inflammation, angiogenesis, and connective tissue remodeling, and has been implicated in various pathological processes including inflammatory diseases, cancer, cardiovascular disease, and metabolic disorders.

Other names
ENA-78SCYB5Epithelial-derived neutrophil-activating peptide 78
02

Mechanism of action

CXCL5 binds primarily to CXCR2 on target leukocytes/neutrophils, modulating their activity. It can also bind Glycosaminoglycans to modulate availability/activity. When bound to GAGs, it cannot activate receptor.
