C11orf98 pseudogene 1 (C11orf98P1) is a human pseudogene, meaning it is a nonfunctional segment of DNA that resembles a protein-coding gene, but is not transcribed or translated into a functional protein product. Pseudogenes are common in the human genome and can sometimes play regulatory roles, but most have no direct biological function. Unlike its protein-coding relative C11orf98 (Chromosome 11 open reading frame 98), C11orf98P1 is not known to produce any protein, participate in known biological pathways, or serve as a therapeutic target[3]. Pseudogenes can complicate genetic analyses by being erroneously annotated as genes but generally do not have clinical or therapeutic significance[3].
