C15orf40 pseudogene (ENSG00000225253) is a non-functional genetic element located on chromosome 15. By definition, pseudogenes are DNA sequences that show significant homology to functional genes, but are incapable of producing a functional protein product due to disabling mutations such as frameshifts, premature stop codons, or disrupted regulatory elements[1][3][5]. Pseudogenes may arise from duplication followed by mutation, or through retrotransposition events. Their presence can sometimes complicate genetic or molecular studies due to sequence similarity with functional genes, potentially leading to amplification bias or annotation errors[3]. There is no evidence that C15orf40 pseudogene encodes any functional protein or plays a role in disease, therapeutic intervention, or drug interaction.
