C1GALT1-specific chaperone 1-like protein (C1GALT1C1L) is a paralog of C1GALT1C1 (COSMC). COSMC itself acts as a molecular chaperone required for the proper folding, stability, and full activity of core 1 β1,3-galactosyltransferase 1 (C1GALT1), an enzyme critical for O-glycan biosynthesis[4]. However, C1GALT1C1L is distinct from COSMC. While it is similar at the sequence level, there is no robust evidence that C1GALT1C1L has any essential enzymatic function, molecular chaperone activity in humans, or clinical relevance, and it does not appear prominently in biomedical literature as a validated therapeutic target or disease-associated molecule[4]. Most functional and disease-related roles relate to C1GALT1 or C1GALT1C1 (COSMC), not C1GALT1C1L. C1GALT1C1L is not recognized as a therapeutic or clinical target but is a chaperone-like protein with sequence similarity to COSMC. Its molecular or clinical relevance is not established, and entries referencing it may be the result of confusion with the better-studied C1GALT1C1 (COSMC)[4].
