C1QTNF1 antisense RNA 1 (C1QTNF1-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed from the antisense strand of the C1QTNF1 gene locus. It does not encode a protein but exerts regulatory roles at the molecular level. C1QTNF1-AS1 has been shown to influence the cell cycle, particularly mitotic progression, via interaction with nuclear splicing proteins such as RSRC2 and potential effects on mRNA stability of genes like LPP[2]. In hepatocellular carcinoma, C1QTNF1-AS1 is downregulated, and its upregulation suppresses oncogenic behaviors by decreasing miR-221-3p levels, releasing SOCS3, and inhibiting the JAK/STAT pathway, thereby reducing proliferation and increasing apoptosis[1]. Conversely, in colorectal cancer, C1QTNF1-AS1 is overexpressed, promotes tumor progression by acting as a competitive endogenous RNA for miR-484, leading to increased HK2 expression[4]. Its dysregulation, copy number variation, and altered methylation status have been linked to poor prognosis in various cancers, including cervical cancer[1]. C1QTNF1-AS1 is under investigation as both a potential therapeutic target and a prognostic biomarker in oncology settings[1][4].
