C1RL antisense RNA 1 (C1RL-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA gene located on chromosome 12p13.31 and is primarily expressed in mesenchymal-derived cell types[4][5]. It does not code for a protein but functions in the regulation of gene expression, particularly in the context of cancer biology. Recent research implicates C1RL-AS1 as a regulator of proliferation, migration, and apoptosis in gastric cancer cells, acting via the AKT/β-catenin/c-Myc signaling axis. Mechanistically, it may function as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA), modulating the availability of microRNAs and influencing the expression of cancer-associated genes[2][3]. High expression of C1RL-AS1 correlates with more aggressive cancer phenotypes and poorer prognosis, underscoring its potential as a biomarker and experimental therapeutic target. However, no drugs are known to directly target C1RL-AS1, and its role as a therapy target remains investigational.
