Overview

CPAMD8P1, or C3 and PZP like alpha-2-macroglobulin domain containing 8 pseudogene 1, is a human pseudogene located in the genome and is related to the functional gene CPAMD8. Pseudogenes are DNA sequences that resemble known genes but are generally non-functional due to mutations, lost regulatory elements, or truncations. CPAMD8P1 does not encode a protein, is not known to have direct biological function, and is not implicated in any disease, therapeutic targeting, or biomarker role. The parent gene, CPAMD8, is associated with ocular developmental disorders, but CPAMD8P1 is not involved in these processes[4]. Important distinction: The functional gene, CPAMD8, is involved in ocular development and has disease associations (particularly with anterior segment dysgenesis and glaucoma)[1][2][3], but CPAMD8P1 is a non-coding pseudogene and should not be considered an actionable or functional therapeutic target[4].
