Overview
Undecaprenyl pyrophosphate (C55-PP) is an essential lipid carrier molecule in bacteria, playing a critical role in cell wall biosynthesis. It transports peptidoglycan precursors and other polysaccharides across the cytoplasmic membrane. After delivering its cargo, it is dephosphorylated to undecaprenyl phosphate (C55-P) for recycling. Inhibition of this cycle disrupts peptidoglycan synthesis and is a target for antibiotic development.
