C5orf34 antisense RNA 1 (C5orf34-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed from chromosome 5 (5p12, 43,483,545-43,545,445) on the forward DNA strand. As an antisense RNA, C5orf34-AS1 is believed to participate in gene expression regulation by targeting promoter regions, thereby negatively regulating expression of overlapping or adjacent genes, likely through transcriptional interference or chromatin-based mechanisms. While general roles for antisense lncRNAs include regulation of alternative splicing, epigenetic modification, and acting as competing endogenous RNAs, there is currently no evidence implicating C5orf34-AS1 as a therapeutic target or with established drug interactions, disease association, or biomarker function. The specific physiological or pathological function of C5orf34-AS1 remains insufficiently characterized.
