CACN subunit beta associated regulatory protein (CBARP) is a protein that **negatively regulates voltage-gated calcium channels** by preventing the interaction between their alpha and beta subunits, which reduces activity of these channels at the plasma membrane and indirectly inhibits calcium-regulated exocytosis[5][7][9][11][13]. CBARP is predicted to bind transmembrane transporters and plays a modulatory (not primary) role in cellular calcium signaling, affecting processes such as neurotransmitter or hormone release initiated by calcium influx[2][4][5][7]. CBARP is not a receptor, enzyme, or transporter, but a regulatory protein whose malfunction or altered expression may have implications in cancer and other diseases[7]. There are currently no drugs known to directly target CBARP itself, and its primary biological relevance is via regulation of the function of voltage-gated calcium channels.
