Overview

CACNB2 antisense RNA 1 (CACNB2-AS1) is a long non-coding antisense RNA that is transcribed from the opposite strand of the CACNB2 gene locus. By definition, antisense RNAs are complementary to other RNAs and typically modulate gene expression of their sense counterparts through a variety of mechanisms, including transcriptional interference, chromatin remodeling, and RNA stability alterations[3]. While the sense CACNB2 gene encodes the beta-2 subunit of voltage-gated calcium channels and has explicit involvement in diseases such as Brugada syndrome, psychiatric disorders, and cardiac arrhythmias[1][2][4][6], there is no direct evidence that CACNB2-AS1 is itself a therapeutic target, nor is there published data on its involvement in human disease or established pharmacological manipulation. Antisense RNAs in general may play roles in the epigenetic and post-transcriptional regulation of their corresponding sense gene, but the specific function, disease roles, or druggability of CACNB2-AS1 are not documented in the available literature[3].
