Overview

CACNG2 divergent transcript (CACNG2-DT) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) expressed from the antisense strand of the CACNG2 locus, regulated by a bidirectional promoter. The promoter possesses cAMP response elements (CRE) and is sensitive to signaling mediators like CREB. Experimental evidence shows that CACNG2-DT can increase expression of the CACNG2 (Stargazin) protein, a transmembrane auxiliary subunit of AMPA receptors, which are critical for synaptic transmission and implicated in neurological diseases such as epilepsy. CACNG2-DT is thought to act via transcriptional and possibly post-transcriptional mechanisms to influence gene expression in neurons, but it is not a therapeutic target, and its molecular mechanisms remain an area of active research[1][5][3].\n\nNo alternative canonical target form or established direct synonym exists beyond "CACNG2 divergent transcript" and "CACNG2-DT." No evidence supports its direct targeting by drugs or use as a biomarker, and its current relevance is principally functional and mechanistic in synaptic gene regulation.

Mechanism of action

no drugs directly targeting CACNG2-DT; any effect would be indirect, through effects on regulation of the CACNG2 gene

03

Biological functions
