CACNG2 divergent transcript (CACNG2-DT) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) expressed from the antisense strand of the CACNG2 locus, regulated by a bidirectional promoter. The promoter possesses cAMP response elements (CRE) and is sensitive to signaling mediators like CREB. Experimental evidence shows that CACNG2-DT can increase expression of the CACNG2 (Stargazin) protein, a transmembrane auxiliary subunit of AMPA receptors, which are critical for synaptic transmission and implicated in neurological diseases such as epilepsy.
