Target intelligence / Profile preview

Cadherin-15 (CDH15)

Target
CDH15
Molecular classification
Cell adhesion molecule, Calcium-dependent glycoprotein, Type I classical cadherin, Transmembrane protein
01

Overview

Cadherin-15 is a transmembrane glycoprotein member of the cadherin superfamily, mediating calcium-dependent homophilic cell-cell adhesion, predominantly in muscle cells. The molecule has five extracellular cadherin domains, a single transmembrane domain, and a conserved cytoplasmic tail. Expression is strongest during muscle cell differentiation (myogenesis) and is essential for regulating terminal differentiation in muscle tissue. CDH15's loss or mutation is associated with intellectual disability syndromes, and it participates in cell junction organization and ERK signaling. While it is considered an important receptor-like adhesion molecule, no direct pharmacological modulators are clinically approved.
