Cadherin-22 (CDH22)

Target
CDH22
Molecular classification
Other, calcium-dependent cell adhesion protein, member of the cadherin superfamily
01

Overview

Cadherin-22 (CDH22) is a member of the cadherin superfamily of calcium-dependent cell adhesion proteins, characterized by five extracellular cadherin repeats and a conserved cytoplasmic tail[2][8]. It is predominantly expressed in the brain and neuroendocrine tissues, where it is believed to mediate homophilic cell-cell adhesion and play an important role in tissue morphogenesis, compartmentalization, and maintenance—especially in the brain and pituitary gland[2][3][8]. CDH22 is implicated in cancer pathophysiology, with evidence showing its promoter hypermethylation and expression downregulation in breast cancer, suggesting possible tumor-suppressive characteristics[6]. No known direct drug interactions or approved therapeutic targeting have been documented; its principal recognized function is in morphogenesis and tissue organization[8].
