Cadherin-related family member 4 (CDHR4)

Target
CDHR4
Molecular classification
Calcium-dependent cell adhesion molecule, Cadherin superfamily (non-classical cadherin), Type-I transmembrane protein
01

Overview

Cadherin-related family member 4 (CDHR4) is a predicted calcium-dependent cell adhesion protein belonging to the cadherin superfamily. Like other members, it is thought to enable homophilic cell-cell adhesion and contribute to tissue organization, particularly through mediating calcium-dependent interactions at the plasma membrane. CDHR4 preferentially interacts with itself and is mainly located in the plasma membrane. It is structurally characterized by extracellular cadherin domains that bind Ca²⁺ ions, essential for its adhesive function. While detailed tissue-specific roles and biological functions are less characterized compared to classical cadherins, it is a paralog of CDH16 and has been associated with the rare disorder Mirror Movements 1. No specific drugs, safety concerns, or biomarker utility are documented for CDHR4 at present.
