CADM2 antisense RNA 1 (CADM2-AS1)

Target
CADM2-AS1
Molecular classification
Long noncoding RNA, Antisense RNA
01

Overview

CADM2 antisense RNA 1 (CADM2-AS1) is a long noncoding RNA identified in human tissues as being aberrantly expressed in several cancers, most notably in metastatic gastric cancer. It promotes metastasis in gastric cancer by sponging and downregulating miR-5047, resulting in increased NOTCH4 mRNA expression and enhanced epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). Knockdown of CADM2-AS1 inhibits cancer cell migration and EMT progression. CADM2-AS1 is not a protein-coding gene and thus is not a direct therapeutic target for drugs but may be a relevant biomarker or an indirect target for RNA-based or genetic therapies.

Mechanism of action

Acts as a molecular sponge for miR-5047 (and possibly other miRNAs), which leads to upregulation of NOTCH4 mRNA and promotes metastasis

03

Biological functions
