Overview

CADM2 antisense RNA 2 (CADM2-AS2) is a long non-coding RNA gene expressed from the human genome on chromosome 3p12.1. It is transcribed antisense to the protein-coding CADM2 locus, meaning its sequence overlaps with the sense (protein-coding) gene but is read from the opposite DNA strand. Like many lncRNAs and antisense RNAs, it likely operates in gene regulation – for example, by influencing chromatin structure, blocking transcription machinery, or modulating the stability and translation of sense transcripts[2][3][5][7]. Such transcripts may act in cis (at the site of their own synthesis) or trans (distally in the cell), with effects that include transcriptional interference, epigenetic modifications, and transcript stability modulation[5]. There is currently no evidence that CADM2-AS2 encodes a protein, nor is there evidence for a direct, actionable disease role or pharmacological targeting. It is best classified as a molecular regulatory RNA, not as a classic therapeutic target like a receptor, enzyme, or transporter.
