Overview

CADM3 antisense RNA 1 (CADM3-AS1) is a human long non-coding RNA gene transcribed from the opposite (antisense) strand of the cell adhesion molecule 3 (CADM3) locus on chromosome 1. Classified as an antisense lncRNA, CADM3-AS1 has multiple transcripts and does not encode a protein[1][3]. Like other antisense lncRNAs, it is implicated in regulating expression of adjacent or overlapping genes, modulating gene activity via transcriptional interference, and potentially influencing chromatin structure or transcription factor binding[2]. CADM3-AS1 is downregulated in several human cancers, including lung adenocarcinoma and cervical squamous cell carcinoma, where its high expression is associated with favorable prognosis and tumor suppression, making it a useful biomarker for disease progression[3][7]. While its precise mechanistic function remains under investigation, CADM3-AS1 is currently being explored for its biological and clinical relevance in oncology and gene regulation[3][7][1].
