Target intelligence / Profile preview

Calcineurin subunit A alpha isoform (CnAα)

Target
CnAα
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Serine/threonine protein phosphatase
01

Overview

Calcineurin subunit A alpha isoform is the catalytic component of calcineurin, a calcium and calmodulin-dependent serine/threonine protein phosphatase (PPP3CA). Calcineurin plays a central role in transducing calcium signals to regulate diverse physiological processes, especially within the immune, cardiovascular, and nervous systems. It dephosphorylates members of the nuclear factor of activated T-cells (NFAT) family and regulates cardiac hypertrophy via NFAT signaling pathways in cardiomyocytes. It is a target for immunosuppressive drugs.
