Overview

Calcineurin subunit B type 1 is the regulatory subunit of calcineurin, a calcium-dependent, calmodulin-stimulated serine/threonine protein phosphatase. It contains multiple EF-hand domains that bind Ca²⁺ ions, which are essential for activation of calcineurin in response to intracellular calcium signals. It plays critical roles in immune cell activation and regulates physiological processes in cardiovascular and nervous systems. Inhibitors like cyclosporin A and tacrolimus are used as immunosuppressants.
