Overview

The calcium channel protein alpha 1C subunit (CACNA1C) is a critical component of voltage-dependent L-type calcium channels. These channels mediate calcium influx upon membrane depolarization and are essential for numerous physiological processes, including cardiac action potentials, neurotransmitter release, and muscle contraction. Mutations in CACNA1C are associated with several disorders, including Timothy Syndrome and Long QT Syndrome type 8.
