Calcium Channel Protein Alpha1C Subunit (CaV1.2)

Target
CaV1.2
Molecular classification
Ion channel, Voltage-gated calcium channel
01

Overview

The calcium channel protein alpha1C subunit, also known as CaV1.2, is the pore-forming alpha-1 subunit of the voltage-dependent L-type calcium channel. It mediates influx of Ca²⁺ ions into cells when activated by changes in membrane potential (depolarization), playing a key role in shaping action potentials in cardiac and smooth muscle cells. Mutations or dysregulation are associated with cardiac arrhythmias and psychiatric disorders.
