Calcium Channel Protein Type 1 Subunit Alpha (L-type) (CACNA1x)

Target
CACNA1x
Molecular classification
Ion channel, Voltage-gated calcium channel
01

Overview

The L-type calcium channel protein type 1 subunit alpha (α1 subunit) is the main pore-forming subunit of L-type voltage-gated calcium channels. It mediates Ca²⁺ influx into excitable cells upon membrane depolarization, playing a crucial role in excitation-contraction coupling in cardiac, skeletal, and smooth muscle. Different isoforms exist (Cav1.1-Cav1.4) with distinct tissue distributions. Mutations or dysregulation are implicated in various pathologies.
