The calcium channel protein type L subunit alpha 1C, commonly referred to as CaV1.2 or encoded by the gene CACNA1C, is the pore-forming alpha-1 subunit of the voltage-dependent L-type calcium channel. This protein mediates the influx of calcium ions into cells upon membrane depolarization and plays a critical role in various physiological processes, especially in excitable tissues such as cardiac and smooth muscle, neurons, pancreatic cells, and fibroblasts.
