Target intelligence / Profile preview

Calcium Channel Protein Type L Subunit Alpha1C (Cav1.2)

Target
Cav1.2
Molecular classification
Ion channel, Voltage-gated calcium channel
01

Overview

The calcium channel protein type L subunit alpha1C (Cav1.2) is the pore-forming subunit of the voltage-dependent L-type calcium channel. It mediates the influx of calcium ions into cells upon membrane depolarization, playing a crucial role in excitation-contraction coupling in cardiac and smooth muscle, as well as hormone secretion and synaptic transmission. It is a target for dihydropyridine drugs used to treat hypertension and cardiac arrhythmias.
