Calcium-dependent potassium channel SLO-1 (SLO-1)

Target
SLO-1
Molecular classification
Ion channel, Potassium channel, Calcium-activated potassium channel
01

Overview

SLO-1 is a large conductance, calcium- and voltage-activated potassium channel. It is a tetramer composed of four α subunits, each containing seven transmembrane segments. Activation leads to efflux of K⁺ ions, membrane hyperpolarization, and decreased cell excitability. Key functions include regulating smooth muscle contraction, neuronal excitability, auditory function, hormone secretion, and neurotransmitter release. Dysfunctions are linked to various diseases including hypertension, epilepsy, and autism spectrum disorders.
