Calcium homeostasis endoplasmic reticulum protein (CHERP) is a ubiquitously expressed nuclear protein which participates in the regulation of alternative pre-mRNA splicing and cellular proliferation. Originally thought to be an endoplasmic reticulum protein involved in regulating calcium channels, subsequent research established that CHERP is localized in the nucleus (specifically nuclear speckles) and functions as a spliceosomal-associated factor, with domains characteristic of the SR-related protein family. CHERP depletion leads to defects in cellular proliferation, cell cycle progression, and induces apoptosis, as observed in neuroblastoma cell lines. CHERP may play a role in regulating tumor cell growth and could serve as a novel therapeutic target in oncology settings, but as of now, no drugs or direct mechanisms of pharmacological action have been documented[1][2].
