Target intelligence / Profile preview
Calcium pantothenate is the calcium salt of pantothenic acid, a water-soluble B-complex vitamin known as Vitamin B5 [3, 7]. It is an essential nutrient that serves as a precursor for the biosynthesis of Coenzyme A (CoA) and acyl carrier protein (ACP), which are fundamental to cellular energy metabolism and the synthesis of fatty acids, hormones, and neurotransmitters [1, 2, 8]. Although it is a drug or supplement rather than a therapeutic target, it plays a critical role in maintaining metabolic homeostasis [1, 10]. It is widely used in clinical settings to treat vitamin B5 deficiency and is also incorporated into topical formulations for wound healing and skin conditioning [5, 7, 15]. Its safety profile is excellent, with adverse effects typically limited to mild gastrointestinal issues at very high doses [8, 14].
Calcium pantothenate is converted into pantothenic acid, which serves as a precursor for the synthesis of Coenzyme A (CoA) and acyl carrier protein (ACP). CoA is a vital cofactor for enzymes involved in the Krebs cycle, fatty acid oxidation, and the synthesis of cholesterol and acetylcholine.
