Calcyphosine 2 (CAPS2) is a calcium-binding protein characterized by the presence of two EF-hand motifs, which are helix-loop-helix structural domains specialized for binding calcium ions. CAPS2 is likely involved in intracellular calcium-signaling events and is believed to play a modulatory role in calcium-mediated signal transduction pathways, potentially impacting cellular responses to changes in calcium levels. It is widely expressed across tissues but is not classified as an enzyme, receptor, transporter, or standard drug target, and there are currently no approved drugs targeting CAPS2 or using it as a biomarker in clinical practice. Although differential methylation of the CAPS2 promoter has been observed in animal models of obesity, a specific or direct role in human disease or as a therapeutic target has not been established.
