Calcyphosine-like protein (CAPSL)

Target
CAPSL
Molecular classification
EF-hand domain-containing protein, Calcium-binding protein
01

Overview

Calcyphosine-like protein (CAPSL) is a calcium-binding protein with EF-hand domains predicted to localize to the cytoplasm and play multifaceted roles in cell biology, including calcium ion signaling, regulation of adipocyte differentiation, fat metabolism, cell migration, and immune response modulation[1][3][5]. Genetic association studies have implicated CAPSL loci in autoimmune diseases like type 1 diabetes and Graves’ disease[1], while functional studies show down-regulation in adipose tissue of patients with multiple symmetric lipomatosis, with experimental evidence supporting its role in adipogenesis, lipogenesis, autophagy, and sirtuin-1 expression[1][4]. No drugs currently target CAPSL directly, and it is not considered a classical druggable target such as a receptor, enzyme, or ion channel[1][4][8].
