Calpain-9

Molecular classification
Enzyme, Cysteine protease
01

Overview

Calpain-9 is a calcium-dependent, non-lysosomal cysteine protease predominantly expressed in the stomach and small intestine. It plays a role in cytoskeletal remodeling and cell differentiation. Calpain-9 is downregulated in gastric cancer and its loss protects against experimentally induced fibrosis, making it a potential therapeutic target.
