Calponin 2 pseudogene 11 (CNN2P11) is a non-functional genomic sequence on chromosome 11 that shows homology to the protein-coding calponin 2 gene (CNN2). Pseudogenes like CNN2P11 do not produce active protein and do not serve direct biological functions. Calponin 2 itself is an actin-binding protein implicated in smooth muscle contractility, cell adhesion, and cytoskeletal regulation, but pseudogenes of CNN2, including CNN2P11, are considered genomic relics with no established therapeutic or diagnostic use. The presence of multiple pseudogenes for CNN2 across various chromosomes has been described, but only the main gene CNN2 is functionally relevant to molecular and cellular biology.
