Calreticulin is a highly conserved, multifunctional protein primarily located in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) of eukaryotic cells. It acts as a major Ca²⁺-buffering molecule in the ER and assists in folding newly synthesized glycoproteins. It also plays roles in antigen presentation, gene regulation, and cell adhesion. Altered expression or mutations in CALR are implicated in several diseases, including cancer and myeloproliferative neoplasms.
