Calsyntenin 2 is a postsynaptic cell adhesion molecule found on neuronal membranes, encoded by the CLSTN2 gene. It mediates synapse formation by binding presynaptic neurexins and is strongly associated with learning and memory, synaptic organization, and inhibitory synapse density. Deletion or mutation in animal models yields deficits in hippocampus-dependent memory and reduced inhibitory transmission, particularly affecting parvalbumin-positive interneuron populations in the brain. While involved in cognitive function and neurological development, it is not currently recognized as a therapeutic target, and its roles in human disease are primarily suggested by genetic associations with memory performance and certain rare conditions[1][2][5][6][7].
