Overview

The cAMP-dependent protein kinase type II-alpha regulatory subunit pseudogene (ENSG00000254877, LOC100422398) is a non-functional genomic sequence similar to genes encoding the regulatory subunits (RIIα, RIIβ) of protein kinase A (PKA). Pseudogenes arise through duplication or retrotransposition, accumulate mutations such as frameshifts and premature stop codons, and are generally not transcribed or translated into functional proteins. While functional PKA regulatory subunits play essential roles in signal transduction by regulating catalytic subunit activity in response to cAMP, this pseudogene does not participate in any known biological processes and is not a direct target for therapeutic intervention. The presence of this pseudogene should not be mistaken for the actual type II alpha or beta regulatory subunits (coded by PRKAR2A, PRKAR2B), which are functional and involved in cellular signaling pathways. The pseudogene is primarily used as a genetic marker or for evolutionary studies but has no direct therapeutic or biological relevance. If you need structured information for the functional protein kinase subunit, refer to "cAMP-dependent protein kinase type II-alpha regulatory subunit" (PRKAR2A).
