Overview

Cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) are a heterogeneous population of activated fibroblasts found within the tumor microenvironment. They acquire pro-tumorigenic properties that support cancer progression through multiple mechanisms, including extracellular matrix remodeling, promotion of angiogenesis, immune modulation, support of cancer stemness, and contribution to therapy resistance. CAFs are being actively investigated as therapeutic targets.
