Cancer Cell DNA

Molecular classification
DNA, Genetic Material
01

Overview

Cancer cell DNA refers to the genetic material within cancerous cells that has undergone mutations or structural changes, leading to uncontrolled cell growth and division. These alterations in DNA are central to the transformation of normal cells into cancer cells and drive many of the hallmarks of cancer, such as unchecked proliferation, evasion of apoptosis (programmed cell death), and genomic instability. Therapies increasingly target features unique to cancer cell DNA, such as defective repair pathways or specific mutated sequences.

Mechanism of action

Various mechanisms depending on the drug. PARP inhibitors target DNA repair pathways. Chemotherapy drugs induce DNA damage. Genome editing tools modify specific DNA sequences.
