Overview

CASC17 (Cancer susceptibility candidate 17, non-protein coding) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) gene located on chromosome 17q24.3 and also known as LINC00600[3][4][10]. It does not encode a protein but may play a regulatory role by modulating gene dosage and tissue-specific gene expression[1]. CASC17 has been implicated as a susceptibility locus for multiple cancers, particularly prostate cancer, based on genome-wide association studies[3][5][13]. Like other lincRNAs, CASC17 is thought to be involved in regulatory processes affecting chromatin remodeling and transcriptional control, influencing disease risk but is not classified as a direct drug target such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter[12][1]. CASC17 and similar lincRNAs are under investigation as potential disease biomarkers and targets for diagnostic development, although currently no direct interacting drugs or therapeutic mechanisms are known[12][3][13].
