The cannabinoid receptor type 2 (CB2) is a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) predominantly expressed in immune system tissues. It modulates immune cell function, offering potential for anti-inflammatory effects without the psychoactivity associated with CB1 activation. CB2 is also implicated in pain management, neurodegenerative diseases, epilepsy, and addiction.
Primarily couples to Gi/o proteins leading to inhibition of adenylate cyclase activity; can also interact with Gs or Gq/11 depending on cell/tissue context.
