CAP-Gly domain-containing linker protein 3 (CLIP3) is a member of the cytoplasmic linker protein 170 family, characterized by a cytoskeleton-associated protein glycine-rich (CAP-Gly) domain. CLIP3 acts as a cytoplasmic linker protein involved in binding microtubules, especially at their plus-ends, and facilitating their interaction with cellular organelles and the plasma membrane. It participates in TGN-endosome trafficking, modulates the localization of the AKT kinase family to the cell membrane (with consequences for glucose transport in adipocytes), and has a regulatory role in T cell apoptosis by connecting tubulin to lipid raft components. Multiple transcript variants may exist due to alternative splicing.
