Overview

Capicua transcriptional repressor pseudogene 13 (CICP13) is a pseudogene, meaning it is a genomic DNA sequence similar to the functional CIC gene but presumed nonfunctional due to accumulated mutations or lack of necessary regulatory signals. Pseudogenes sometimes produce RNA transcripts that can participate in gene regulation by acting as competitive endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) or miRNA decoys, modulating the expression of their functional parent gene. There is no evidence that CICP13 itself encodes a functional protein or acts as a legitimate therapeutic target. Multiple capicua pseudogenes exist in the human genome, and their functional relevance is largely unknown, with limited evidence for specific roles in disease.

Biological functions

Potential regulatory effects (ceRNA/miRNA decoy) may exist, as in other pseudogenes, but no specific function is attributed to CICP13
03

Disease associations

No direct evidence for CICP13 participation in disease. By analogy, some pseudogenes can regulate parental gene expression with potential impact in cancer or other diseases, but CICP13 itself has not been reported as such
