Capicua transcriptional repressor pseudogene 16 (CICP16) is a processed pseudogene related to the parental Capicua transcriptional repressor (CIC) gene[3]. As a pseudogene, CICP16 does not encode a functional protein and is not currently known to have direct biological activity or relevance as a therapeutic target[3][7]. The functional CIC protein is a transcriptional repressor involved in normal development, especially in the central nervous system, and is implicated in certain cancers; however, CICP16 itself, like most pseudogenes, may only potentially have indirect regulatory effects at the RNA level through mechanisms such as small interfering RNA or by acting as a competing endogenous RNA[5][7]. There are currently no drugs, recognized disease roles, or clinical biomarkers associated with CICP16, and it is not classified as a receptor, enzyme, or other canonical protein target.
