Capicua transcriptional repressor pseudogene 22 (CICP22) is classified as a pseudogene on human chromosome 22 and is similar in sequence to the protein-coding gene "Capicua transcriptional repressor" (CIC), a high-mobility group box (HMG-box) transcriptional repressor important in developmental regulation and cancer. Unlike functional CIC genes, pseudogenes like CICP22 are usually considered nonfunctional and do not encode a protein. A subset of pseudogenes may be transcribed, but there is currently no evidence that CICP22 has any biological activity or role in disease; it is not considered a drug target.
