Capicua transcriptional repressor pseudogene 23 (CICP23) is a human pseudogene that shares sequence similarity with the functional Capicua (CIC) transcription factor gene. Unlike functional genes, CICP23 does not encode a protein or contribute to canonical protein-mediated cellular functions. Pseudogenes can sometimes act as competitive endogenous RNAs or influence gene regulation through various non-coding RNA mechanisms, but there is no published evidence of such a function for CICP23 itself. Thus, it has no established biological, pathological, or pharmacological role, and is not recognized as a therapeutic target.
