Overview

Capicua transcriptional repressor pseudogene 24 (CICP24) is a human gene classified as a pseudogene, meaning it resembles the protein-coding gene *capicua transcriptional repressor* (CIC) but is not believed to produce a functional protein. There is no evidence that CICP24 encodes a protein or plays a direct biological role, nor is it considered a therapeutic target. While pseudogenes can sometimes have regulatory effects through RNA transcripts or act as competitive endogenous RNAs, there is no published evidence supporting such a role for CICP24. The functional *Capicua transcriptional repressor* (CIC) is a high-mobility group (HMG)-box transcriptional repressor involved in normal development, neurogenesis, and tumor suppression, and has been implicated in diseases such as oligodendroglioma and ataxia. CIC has many pseudogenes scattered in the human genome, including CICP24, but these are not themselves considered therapeutic targets. CICP24 is not a therapeutic target, nor does it belong to categories such as receptor, enzyme, transporter, or transcription factor. There is no evidence for its involvement in biological functions, disease roles, drug interactions, mechanisms of action, or use as a biomarker. This entry is potentially misleading if interpreted as a drug target; CICP24 should not be considered for such purposes. For therapeutic or functional relevance, information on the protein-coding paralog *capicua transcriptional repressor* (CIC) should be used instead.
